Branding and advertising agency

Macadam is a second generation, family-owned agency that, since 1975, has developed an excellent understanding of the communication challenges specific to SMEs, large companies, associations, public and semi-public organizations, and NPOs.

Deep-rooted values

We advise each of our clients with respect and kindness, like we would a family member.

01.

Courageous since 1975

If you only knew what we’ve been through since we started out. For us, the most important thing has always been to work, day in, day out, be in a good mood and show resilience during the more difficult moments.

02.

Reliable as can be

At Macadam, we love a job well done and delivered on time. Accountability is second nature to us. Ultimately, the close relationships we’ve forged with our clients and our team makes all the difference.

03.

Caring toward our people

To achieve the highest standards of quality, everyone in the boat must row in the same direction. It’s a team effort. Moreover, kindness and respect will always be at the heart of our values.

04.

Open to opportunities

We love taking on new challenges! We’re curious by nature and like to look at things differently. We’ll do our utmost to help you achieve your goals, and by the same token, our own. It’s a win-win situation!

The small studio that became an agency

1975, the adventure begins

The graphic design studio co-founded by Guy Beauchemin and Guy Fontaine was founded in 1975. The two Guys started out modestly in the basement of a print shop on Crémazie Boulevard in Montreal, equipping themselves with drawing tables and chairs, brushes, a line-drawer, squares, dozens of Letraset sheets, exactos, ink, gouache, paper, cardboard, an Airbrush, a Rubilith, and a latest-model Agfa vertical camera to tackle their destinies.

The ’80s

A few years later, the firm moved to Laval, where the two partners lived. The event was marked by an official opening of the new offices, which was attended by the then mayor of Laval, Dr. Lucien Paiement (center), with Guy Fontaine (left) and Guy Beauchemin (right).

In the mid-1980s, Guy Beauchemin joined forces with graphic designer Pierre Ahélo. This partnership spanned many years during which they worked with clients such as Ultramar, Lumberland Building Materials, Loignon Durand Quevillon housing company, Westburne Québec, Autostock and G. Lebeau.

The ‘90s

The next decade unfolded in the shadow of the Olympic Stadium, in a former shoe factory converted into urban lofts, and in the company of artistic director Marc Mc Innis.

During this period, the agency worked closely with manufacturing companies, some of them exporters. The agency supported them in their communications and their presence at major trade shows around the world.

The agency also gradually expanded its advertising services in the ‘90s, with new clients such as Complexe de l’auto Rive-Sud, Gaz Métropolitain, Groupe Park Avenue, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, Assurances Cumis and Québec Loisirs, a book club with which it maintained an exceptional relationship for 20 years.

At the dawn of the new millennium

A move to downtown Montreal on President-Kennedy Avenue, and later René-Lévesque Boulevard, enabled the agency to consolidate its leadership in the Montreal communications community. Guy was supported by Éric Filteau, Benoit Robillard and Cédric Loth.

The agency quickly made its mark with a new clientele, including Aéroports de Montréal, Agropur, Carrefour Angrignon, Groupe Lauzon, Groupe santé Biron, Ordres des ingénieurs du Québec, RE/MAX Québec, RSM Richter, Simplex tool rental, Cancer Research Society, Visa Desjardins and Wawanesa Insurance.

Making way for Macadam

In 2014, Guy Beauchemin founded Macadam, along with Guy Gagné and his eldest son Benoit, who is agency’s senior partner today.

Guy’s youngest son, Marc-André, joined the agency as a partner in 2019. Thus, the founder fulfilled his original vision by sharing the family business with his two sons and a second generation. The dream he had cherished for so many years finally came true.
